Swim Meet 101
At least one week prior to each meet, swimmers will need to be registered, whether attending or not! You will be notified when meet registration opens. Registration closes one week before a meet. Each team has warm ups before the meet. You will be notified of our warm up time for each meet during the week of the meet. Most meets last 3-4 hours. Your swimmer will swim in up to 4 events. Coaches assign swimmers to events and parents are notified through swimtopia of their swimmer’s events. Each event has a number. Swimmers are asked to write their numbers on their hand before the meet. (Most people use a black sharpie.) Each meet has a concession stand and most sell heat sheets. A heat sheet is a listing of all events with swimmers’ names and lane numbers. It is recommended that swimmers bring the following to a meet:
-Team suit
-Towels (at least 2)
-Clothing (t-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, sweatshirt, etc) to wear between events
-Cap (plus an extra)
-Goggles (plus an extra pair)
-Something to do (books, games, cards, etc.) Please do not bring balls or items to toss in the air!
-Flip flops/slides
*Depending on the location, some swimmers bring blankets or sleeping bags and parents bring chairs, cash and a camera, plus something to do (for away meets).
*Swimmers are not permitted to leave a meet without first talking to a coach.
* Please be courteous and respectful at both home and away meets. Please clean up your area before you depart the meet.*
